Customers Review:

This book perfectly captures the the drive and heart of the woman who invented the laser probe to remove cataracts. Her story is brought to life through simple, yet elegant prose, and colorful illustrations. To anyone who has had a vision and has had to overcome naysayers along the way–Dr. Bath’s story will ring true and inspire you. The author actually interviewed Dr. Bath in a series of telephone calls before her death, which makes this story all the more special. Don’t hesitate to buy this one! Children (and adults) need to know about this remarkable woman.
While Patricia Bath clearly persevered to follow her dream, educating herself and breaking down barriers as an African American and as a woman, I love that she was so clearly driven from the start by her heart. Her compassion comes through from the first page when her dream sparks and peaks in the end with her generosity and service to others. I had never heard of Dr. Bath and her invention. Her life searching for possibility where others saw no hope is a great example for all of us.
Dr. Patricia Bath followed her passion and vision to help others see and never let naysayers discourage her from getting an education, providing new services at community clinics, or from developing a new technology. She faced discrimination for her race and her sex, but she never gave up. This book richly details Dr. Bath’s journey from a little girl who dreamed big to a renowned doctor/inventor who touched lives around the globe. An excellent choice for any nonfiction bookshelf.
The strategic use of the refrain, “she saw possibility wherever she went,” and direct quotations from Dr. Bath make this biography come alive and reinforce how Patricia never gave up. She fought for herself and others for her entire life. It is a great book showing how tenacity can overcome the barriers of gender, race, and complacency and create meaningful change for others. As well as a practical evaluation of the technology involved in treating blindness and cataracts.
I feel so much richer knowing the story of this true humanitarian hero, Patricia Bath. Her journey of pursuing her dream and never giving up is so inspiring. Driven by her compassion, curiosity, imagination and determination, she restored sight to the blind! Like her, I, too, will remember to “choose miracles”. This is a beautiful story of a beautiful and important woman in history.
I absolutely love picture book biographies, especially when they introduce me to amazing women who changed the world. As someone who suffers from poor eyesight and who has benefited from laser surgery, I was delighted to learn more about Dr. Patricia Bath’s strength, determination, and vision. Dr. Bath’s important legacy will surely inspire.
An inspiring story about caring for others and persisting despite discouragement. It does a good job showing how careers in science can make a big difference in people’s lives. I’m surprised that Dr. Patricia Bath isn’t more widely known–a female, African American physician and inventor whose work has saved people’s sight. This book goes a long way toward rectifying that.
Patricia’s Vision is about determination, compassion and believing in what can be done, even when it has never been done before. I loved reading about the life of Dr. Bath and her inspirational journey of becoming a doctor and changing people’s life by restoring their sight using tools she invented herself. Beautiful writing and gorgeous, scientific illustrations make this a very special book.
