Customers Review:

I purchased this book from Amazon to read. All opinions are my own. The Conference of the Birds by Ransom Riggs. Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children #5. Ok Riggs, you are killing me! This was an edge of your seat, wait for the next step, separation and reuniting, finding old friends, and new pieces of yourself all about Jacob and his friends. The new loops in America are dangerous and the clue left lead to a path that more perplexing and more dangerous than ever! And then……well wait for book #6………Hurry up Ransom Riggs and finish number 6 NOW!!!!!!! I know this isn’t the best review I’ve ever written, but if I say anymore I will give too much away, you just have to read this series! Other fans will understand what I mean!
I just got the book today, so haven’t read it yet, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve read the other 4 Miss Perigren books and each of them has been just marvelous! So I expect this one will be as well. Ransom Riggs is a very talented writer, one of the few modern writers who has the ability to pull you into the story and make you visualize the characters and the story around them. If you have not read the series yet, give the first book a try, you won’t be disappointed. They are marketed for Young Adults, but I’m almost 64, so I’m living proof that the marketing is not a hard and fast, and this series appeals to all ages.
It is well written in classic Riggs style. I loved the tie in from prior books and the deepening of emotional connection with some characters. I am mollified about the cliffhanger only because it means there will be another book to read
The series continues, and this stands in the middle in terms of quality. The story picks up as Jacob is helping Noor (a peculiar) escape from the New York gang that has been holding her. They return to his home in present time with Miss Peregrine and his peculiar friends. The rest of the plot concerns deciphering a prophecy that promises a war of destruction of the ymbrenes. The prophecy names Noor as the one who can save them, although it is ultimately Jacob who becomes the real leader. The main problem, even for fans, is that Riggs provides no backstory to remind the reader (even the fan) as to what has come before. What, for instance, is the difference between the Hollowgasts and the Wights? I vaguely recall that one can evolve into the other. With a two-year gap since A MAP OF DAYS, I have read close to 200 books, and the details are lost to me. This is a very readable sequel for fans of the series, but new readers should start at the beginning. The conference of birds (ymbrenes) plays no real part in the story.
This book continues the story of Jacob Portman and his “family” of peculiars in fine fashion. Fans of the earlier bioks will not be disapppointed. The plot twists and new conflicts are welcome as they add some depth and dimension to the narrstive and the peculiar world. There were some mechanics in the narrative that were clearly set ups for the next installment. Not a big issue, just a little obvious. However, the conclusion of this installment suggests that the next will be very exciting. I hope it fulfills its promise.
This book seamlessly continued where book four ended and gave us a wider view of how this world works with the “normal” world in modern-day America. You can really get a sense of this being reality as the writing is excellent and detailed. Not only a perfectly suited YA book but also fantastic for adults to enjoy. A must-read.
We received the book and haven’t read it yet but there is a problem with the printing. It has tons of pages with gray stripes down the pages.
The story leaves you wanting for more! A big cliffhanger! But I enjoy the ride, with all the craziness, adventure and space for the imagination to blow. I personally can’t wait to watch it all in several movies or a series that depicts the story ORIGINALLY, without changing the book!I am hoping I can grow old and still know about Portman’s life and adventures. Also, as I relate with her, I hope to read about Emma finding her own love and happiness!
