Review “Parents will find in it a powerful message not just about missing teeth and rewards (the usual focus of a picture book story involving a tooth fairy), but the importance of telling the truth and the impact on others when lies are spread. These sub-stories make Lori Orlinsky’s The Tooth Fairy’s Tummy Ache a highly recommended, unexpectedly compelling read with a message unequaled in any other tooth fairy picture book tale.” –Midwest Book Review”This is one of those kids books that is funny and filled with the silly goodness kids love, while at the same time it teaches them the importance of being honest and asking adults for help when they have a problem.” –Readers Favorite”Lori Orlinksy’s adorable book combines the legend of the Tooth Fairy and Vanessa Alexandre s charming art in one gorgeous picture book package. Lori Orlinksy’s adorable book combines the legend of the Tooth Fairy and Vanessa Alexandre’s charming art in one gorgeous picture book package. The scenes move swiftly through the page turns, while the richly detailed illustrations add humorous touches. The main theme of the story is being honest. We love that Lori’s book showcases problems with dishonest behavior(lying) and teaches an ethical lesson without being excessively moralistic.Easy-to-read text, a short-story format, and full-color artwork on every page are sure to boost reading confidence and fluency in your little ones. It is fun, cute and entertaining to boot!Recommended for: spirited 5-8-year-old kids (especially girls!) everywhere, and their designated adult readers.
The Tooth Fairy’s Tummy Ache, by Lori Orlinsky, is a fun, creative picture book that teaches readers about the importance of honesty. The story starts off with a little girl who accidentally swallows her tooth during her snack. She starts to panic when her she realizes the Tooth Fairy won’t visit unless there is a tooth, so the little girl places a popcorn kernel under her pillow. The Tooth Fairy pays a visit and takes the kernel, but when she gets back to her workshop she notices the “tooth” is a little off. While her fairy friends are helping her examine the tooth, the kernel begins to pop and a mountain of popcorn fills the workshop. The Tooth Fairy opens her mouth and eats some of the popcorn only to wind up in bed with a tummy ache. While the Tooth Fairy is in bed, she thinks about what will happen if she can’t collect lost teeth. She suddenly realizes that the little girl must have lied about the “tooth”.I love that this picture book is a hardcover. It’s super sturdy and just feels like a good read aloud book. The illustrator, Vanessa Alexandre, did an incredible job creating adorable visuals. I’m a fan of the she included little teeth accessories on the Tooth Fairy and in the workshop. What really caught my attention with this text is its ability to explore a world that readers don’t often think about. When we think of the Tooth Fairy we just know she comes and leaves money under a pillow in exchange for a tooth. But, what does she do with the teeth? This story answers so many questions in a fun and engaging way, touching on concepts I’ve personally never thought about, such as making dentures for older people. And to make the story even better, Orlinsky throws in a fantastic life lesson about the importance of honesty. As adults, we know that lying often has consequences, even if they happen years later. The originality of using a popcorn kernel as a tooth was perfect (and I honestly never thought of that), because it shows kids that while a replacement may look like the real thing, it never will be. The Tooth Fairy teaches young readers that it is always important to tell the truth, even if you are scared.I would definitely recommend this book for kids in preschool through 2nd grade. I also think it can be used to for character education to discuss the concept of honesty.
Lori Orlinsky delivers a great imaginative story about honesty through a tooth fairy tale. This story does a wonderful job providing readers with a tooth loosing circumstance of accidentally swallowing a loose tooth and how to best inform the tooth fairy of the issue. Orlinsky does a marvelous job with providing a solution to a common problem that children face with their teeth. Children need to understand that being honest about something embarrassing helps them overcome stress and anxiety. This story does a great with that. Vanessa Alexandre does a superb job with the story illustrations by using bright colors and imaginative sketches. I recommend this book to children aged 4 to 8 years old because that is the prime age for loosing teeth and when this circumstance is more prevalent to occur.
Teaching kids the “hard” lessons in life can be difficult. What I love about this book is that it uses the Tooth Fairy to hook kids in, but what keeps them engaged (besides through clever rhymes and adorable illustrations) is the lesson takeaway: we must be honest and always tell the truth! My granddaughters had a follow up discussion about honesty and what they would do if they faced the situation the girl in the book did. We adore this book and look forward to reading more from the talented author!
I love this story so much. The message it shares is about honesty and it has turned out to be so practical currently, in our home. My first grader has been trying to tell little white lies. Tonight we read this book and talked about why telling the truth is so important. Using the Tooth Fairy as a main character just makes it so much more fun!
My six-year-old and I really enjoyed this book about being honest and truthful. A little girl loses her first tooth, but accidentally swallowed it! So now what will she put under her pillow? She tries to trick the Tooth Fairy but learns an important lesson about being honest (and she gains a friend). The rhyming text make this book a delight to read!
