Chris Pye is a natural teacher and he patiently explains the process step by step. as a firs time this book was a bit more than i had hoped. I will keep after it it’s like when sinatra sings a song. every word is clear and after chris writes about a subject, no one else need bother. excellent in every way. Chris Pye is a great carver and a great teacher. I’ve also seen a few of his videos. He is quite detailed and clear in his instructions with good illustrations. Very thorough exploration of the topic. He is a good teacher. Really liked the book showing and explaning how to go about carving letters. It helped me getting started. Also explained about the tools that can be used and how to apply them.I wouldn’t suggest it to a firsttime woodcarver but it’s rather enlightening It took way too long to get here as it came from the UK (a fact that was somewhat hard to find on the site when ordering). Apart from that, it is a pretty good book for beginners and possibly the experienced carver. That said, not worth the wait as one can get similar info on the web.
