Customers Review:

Marisa has done something monumental with this work: re-imagining the ancient triad of Maiden, Mother and Crone from a patriarchal and somewhat role-based and therefore limited place to more empowered archetypes. It’s time to awaken your sovereignty in a unique way. No longer is “maiden” and unmarried virgin – but a princess who knows what she wants and has been freed. The “mother” need not be a woman who has given life or even a “nurturer” (a word people use to ease their discomfort at a woman’s chosen or unchosen childlessness, because it is still inconceivable that they have not given birth). Instead – she has crowed herself as a woman who can rule over her own life and all that is in it. And the beautiful “crone” who we seek wisdom from but who somewhat still carries the weight of something not quite of this world – is now the Wise Woman she always was – and will continue to ever be.These archetypes have taken on a new gleam – especially for the women who may not identify with the Goddess as she has been misunderstood in recent times. This book gives women a grounded place to embody all three at any age, with stories from Irish mythology, journal prompts, and personal stories to guide readers to opening deeper and wider than they did before. A must-read and a must-keep!
The Sovereignty Knot is a very important book, especially for these times. It’s part beautiful story of life and finding new purpose after grief, part humorous narrative about living in this day and age, part reflective self-help guide, interwoven with celtic mythology to tie it all together. This book immediately felt warm and welcoming like sitting in front of a warm fire for an evening with lifelong friends- the kind of circle where you all know the heart of eachother and feel at ease to just be yourself and lose track of time reminiscing and having soul deep conversations. Marisa weaves her magic with her words from the beginning to make it so.I laughed and I cried (often over the span of just a couple pages) repeatedly in the first few chapters, and connected with the central theme as though her story was my own. It reflected my own right back to me while being entirely different in specific circumstances.I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I actually have a couple chapters left and many of the writing exercises to complete on paper. This isn’t just your average book on the topic of sovereignty, and what makes it especially unique is the author “confronts” the often seemingly at odds and problematic areas of being a sovereign person/woman who has to navigate this terrain of remaining true to oneself (the central goal of a sovereign being) while unapologetically committed to her marriage and juggling it all with the important role of being a devoted mother. Trust me, if this sounds appealing to you, this is a book you want in your life!
This is a book whose time has come. This is a book whose time has always been here. Weaving stories of her life in-between Celtic and Irish myths of Princess, Queen and Wise Woman, Marisa helps guide us through the multifaceted and interweaving stages of our lives. Our stories may be different, but we who identify as women embody the same strengths, hopes, desires, conflicts. Marisa gently guides us to embrace and even laugh with those parts of ourselves that are difficult to accept, by shedding light into the darkest places. Two of my favorite quotes, so far: “Considering that we live in a consumerist regime that profits from our self doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act.” And: “Think of power as a life force that you can choose to channel in service to the highest personal and collective good. You may wield your power with a lullaby, or with a warrior’s cry.”
Marisa Goudy has given us a great gift, presented with gorgeous imagery and potent language. Using the Celtic wisdom she has embodied along with her talent for storytelling, we are encouraged to own our wholeness, our uniqueness, and our multidimensionality with humor, grit, and grace. In reading this book you will encounter yourself, and be guided to dance with all of the nuances of freedom, oppression, and expression that being a woman encompasses. Get this book and let its stories lift and carry you along your path.
I immensely enjoyed reading this book. I loved Marisa’s perspective on how a woman can be powerful, or sovereign, at all stages of her life no matter what other relationships she chooses to be, or not to be, involved in.I was particularly blown away by how Marisa was able to translate medieval tales into wisdom for a woman, or any human, living in the twenty first century.I found the book to be a deeply personal, powerful, tale relevant to all stages of life. I intend to re-read it!
This book came to me in a very busy time of life- working full time, mom of two young kids, etc. Despite my laundry list of things to do, I found once I picked up The Sovereignty Knot, I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Goudy’s speaks to the reader in a conversation – you are part of the journey. Through myth and self reflection, she guides towards openings without defining, or projecting onto you, what is on the other side. The work is yours. Though Goudy manages to make this work not feel like work! I’m so happy I sat down with this one, with my princess, queen and wise woman selves at the table. I will be revisiting pieces of this book for some time.
“To be Sovereign is to stand at the center of your own life, confidently able to embody all that you are. But as with so many things related to Sovereignty, this is easier to say than it is to do.” As a woman trying to balance work, motherhood, marriage, self care and care for my community I found Marisa’s words to be a beautiful guide. I highly recommend this book to anyone striving to stand Sovereign.
This is a beautiful, well-written book that will help any women realize and appreciate her value and self-worth. I read a small, moving paragraph on independence to my 3-year old daughter. We are never too young for these lessons, and never too old or confident to be reminded of them. This is a timely book that should be read by all wise women.
