Customers Review:

This is the fifth in the Sullivan’s Crossing series. Hannah becomes a legal guardian to Noah, the five year old son of her late friend Erin. As they both adjust to the loss of his mother and her friend, they vacation at an Air B&B property on a lake in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Noah has cerebral palsy, wears braces and uses crutches. Owen, the landlord, meets them as his business travel was cancelled. The three develop an initially awkward friendship, and as their two week vacation winds down, Owen convinces them to stay a few extra weeks. Noah is getting far more exercise outdoors, and the hope is he’ll be stronger and will not need to use the braces and crutches much longer. Hannah and Owen are a couple, and look for a formal adoption of Noah. Noah’s maternal grandmother petitions the court to become his legal guardian, causing all sorts of problems between Owen and Hannah, as well as for Noah. They all need a happy ending.
WOW! What a wonderful story. I read it straight through. It had me laughing and crying. Noah is an amazing little kid…smart, funny, sweet, devastated by his mom’s death. Hannah is his champion…chosen by her friend, Noah’s mom. Owen is captivated with them both, and his dog Romeo gives Noah something to laugh about. Sullivan’s Crossing is a great place to live or visit, and the people who live there are kind, caring and helpful…and wonderful friends. It was cool to read about some of them again. Even though I wanted a happy ending, I wasn’t ready for the book to end.
A boy, a dog, a woman, a man, romance. What’s not to love? Add in the ‘already in love with’ Sullivan’s Crossing and all our favorite characters…this should have been a 5-star read. Unfortunately for me, although it was good, it wasn’t a best effort, in my opinion. I will say it got better the further I read, and that’s why I’m giving it 4-stars.I could have done without the whole prologue, and I usually LOVE prologues. I kept waiting for more references to the prologue and except for the cheating fiancé and the house, it was pretty much just extra pages.I did like the story. There was sadness, hope, joy, romance, angst, mystery, and ultimately happiness. Important issues were touched on, in-vitro births, parental neglect, female bonding, child abduction, wills, and inheritance. These were all handled expertly.Just because I thought there was an issue with the prologue doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. It was for all the reasons I stated above. I just felt like I was missing something.I’m a fan of Ms. Carr and will absolutely keep purchasing and reading her books. So many people have written stellar reviews of this work and if I leave out my issue with the prologue…I guess mine would be stellar as well.
A summer rental, a new beginning… Hannah Russell’s carefully crafted plans for her life have been upended without warning. When her best friend died suddenly, Hannah became guardian to a five-year-old named Noah. With no experience at motherhood, she’s terrified she’s not up to the challenge. She and Noah need time to get to know each other, so she decides to rent a country house with stunning views on a lake in rural Colorado. When they arrive at the house, they are greeted by the owner, a handsome man who promises to stay out of their way. But his clumsy Great Dane, Romeo, has other ideas and Noah immediately bonds with the lovable dog. As Hannah learns to become a mother, Owen Abrams, who is recovering from his own grief, can’t help but be drawn out of his solitude by his guests. But life throws more challenges at this unlikely trio and they are tested in ways they never thought possible. All three will discover their strengths and, despite their differences, they will fight to become a family. And the people of Sullivan’s Crossing will rally around them to offer all of the support they need.I do enjoy visiting Sullivan’s Crossing and reconnecting with familiar characters like Sully, Helen, and others. Hannah merges nicely with this group, bringing her own unique strengths to the mix.I liked that she and Owen, photographer and guesthouse owner, got along so well, and that he was a positive role model for little Noah. When challenges presented themselves, he aided in facing off against them.Throughout The Country Guesthouse, I felt like I was taking a stroll in the beautiful settings while enjoying the time I spent with the characters. An enjoyable read, although parts of the story lagged for me. The positives outweighed those moments, however, leading to a 4 star rating.
As always Ms Carr has given me hours of reading pleasure. I cried and laughed and didn’t want this book to end. Owen and Hannah were made for each other. And Noah was so sweet and I’m glad everything worked out in the end for the three of them. I can’t get enough of Sullivan’s Crossing .
This series is a succession of really good reads. This one lives up to and surpasses expectations. I read it straight through – couldn’t put it down! I’m always ready for Robyn Carr’s next book. If you haven’t read her earlier books do yourself a favor. Do.
When Hannah is notified that her best friend from college has died and left her five-year-old son Noah in her guardianship. Hannah doesn’t know if she can handle being a mother and decides to take him to Colorado to stay at a lake house for rent. Noah has TO and has to walk with leg braces and crutches. A daunting task for a single with family to help. Hannah meets the owner of the house Owen Abrams and his dog Romeo, a Great Dane who is a little clumsy. After getting to know each other they start to act like a family. A feel good story of how your life can change and get better without you knowing how. I love Robyn Carr’s books and Sullivan Crossing sounds like a place I would love to go. Anyone who hasn’t read Robyn Carr should do so. Her Virgin River series is now on Netflix as well. Thanks Robyn for another feel good story and will be waiting for your next book.
