I found the detail of procedural information is fascinating, and well-balanced by the book’s page-turning, twisting plot. Bravo to the authors: you managed to educate us while entertaining us.My only reservations: – 1. The quantity of Polish expressions seemed extraneous, and 2. – more significantly: (this my fervent plea to ALL recent fiction writers): please, please, leave out the EFF-word altogether.Unlike some editorial reviews, I hope First Cut is NOT intended as the first in an ongoing series. By all means, do keep writing: just give us a new medical examiner next time with a different personal history, and leave First Cut for what it is: a great stand-alone. I bought First Cut because I loved Working Stiff. I rarely read fiction because I find nonfiction so much more fascinating, but this book was absolutely riveting. The characters were well developed and human, the plot was unpredictable, and the details about the job of a Medical Examiner were educational. I loved it! I recommend First Cut to anyone who enjoys a good read. I can’t wait for the authors’ next book! Just finished a fantastic book, First Cut, a murder mystery, by Judy Melinek and TJ Mitchell. The heroine is a forensic pathologist, as is Judy Melinek. Couldn’t put it down. Even skipped a day of watching Grace and Frankie to read more of the book. I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the beginning to the end. I read the authors first book on her experience as a medical examiner first and loved how she incorporated real life experiences throughout her characters work. I also enjoyed the Boston/Lynn references!!! Highly recommended and hope these two continue writing!!! Books in this genre tend to be of two types: Overly technical so only someone in the field could understand it, or unrealistic and overly dramatic like a tv show. This book is neither of those. It has enough (real) forensics in it, and yet there is a good twisting plot, with suspense. The characters are well written with back stories, and the dialogue is even funny at times. I really enjoyed this one, and hope to read more about Czesia’s adventures. I had read “Working Stiff” a year or so ago and was fascinated. The true story of a real-life medical examiner, Dr. Judy Melinek, and her experiences as the medical examiner in NYC during 9/11. Highly recommended! When I heard that Dr. Melinek and her co-author/husband, T.J. Mitchell were writing a fiction mystery novel, “First Cut”, I pre-ordered the book and waited for its arrival.I recently finished First Cut and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are well-developed, interesting characters, multiple story-lines, plenty of gory detail from the protagonist, similarly a medical examiner, and lots of humor sprinkled throughout. First Cut is a well-written page turner and a fun, & suspenseful read. I anxiously await book #3 from these excellent authors! I loved reading this first Fiction novel by T.J Mitchell and Judy Melinek. After reading their first book Working Stiff I was excited to read their first Fiction novel. These two did not disappoint weaving everyday forensic pathology work into the storyline. For those who have an interest in a Forensic Pathologists day, this book does not disappoint and delivers a good number of cases for you to experience. I enjoyed the plot of a hard-working Forensic Pathologist trying to make sense of some strange crimes that don’t appear connected. Give me a good crime thriller and you will have my attention, but weave in real-life cases and I am hooked. Thanks for a great read and I cannot wait for part II. I loved this book! There was suspense and thrill, medical lingo, and such great description. I felt like I was watching a movie in my mind and I was lost in my imagination. The authors created a great protagonist. I really I believed in her, I felt for, and I wanted to learn more about her. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down!! I can’t wait for the next in the series… |
