Read more Customers Review: I only learned of this book after reading about the death last week of Charmian Carr; the actress who played the eldest von Trapp child, Liesl. So I hopped on Amazon and after reading some of the great reviews; bought a used copy which included the DVD (not sure it works but book in excellent condition for $14 with shipping). Upon receipt I was very glad I indulged my nostalgia as the book has wonderful pictures, copies of original items used making the movie, and nice interviews with the child stars. Upon receipt I also realized why my library did not have a copy; it’s too delicate to stand up to volume usage because the book actually is designed/feels like a scrapbook. It’s a very cool design idea but impractical for libraries etc. due to the way it’s bound. I am not a coffee table gal but just might hold on to this one 🙂 My dad had checked out “The Sound of Music Family Scrapbook” from the library and had wanted the book for himself. I hadn’t realized there were multiple versions. It came in the mail today, and he’s disappointed it wasn’t the one he’d wanted. I thought I might’ve mistakingly clicked on the wrong one, but I just checked and the photo preview is apparently a fake generic image that doesn’t match any cover, plus the book preview is yet another version of the book, and still isn’t the one I received. He really liked the book itself, and the replicas and dvd included with the original version. The 55th aniversary edition that came in the mail has some scans of the replicas on some of the pages, but he says he can’t find a lot of them and they’re unorganized and harder for him to read. I think the scans are pretty high quality for scans, however. … or should I write “Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, etc, etc, etc!!!!” I just received this in the mail, opened it, and paged through everything …. the photos, the memories, the behind-the-scenes info …. this is beyond SPECTACULAR if you are a Sound of Music fan! An absolute must-have is putting it lightly — I kept thinking to myself how MAGNIFICENT this is! It’s as if you have become part of the family, and are now looking through their scrapbook of life! My heart goes out to everyone who put effort into this pure treasure trove! I can’t wait to share this with my mother and 3 sisters, who also adore The Sound of Music. This book is simply AMAZING! Bought as a gift for my nonagenarian mother and she has not put it down since it arrived this morning. It is a beautiful book with lots of pictures and reproductions of letters, cards invitations and other items from behind the scenes as seen through the eyes of the actors playing the Von Trapp children. I know she will enjoy going over everything again and again. If I could, I’d give this 7 stars one for each of the SOM7. My copy arrived in the post this afternoon. I’ve been devouring it since. It is full of anecdotes, programmes and ticket stubs, professional/publicity pictures and candid snapshots. Despite having read any and everything I’ve come across which is related to the SOM, the kids, and the real Trapp family, I had by no means read everything. The SOM Family Scrapbook is intriguing enough to keep even the most devoted fan enthralled from cover to cover. I highly recommend it to any fan. Having been a fan of the Sound of Music for almost fifty years, I was thrilled when I found this scrapbook. It is filled with the memorabilia of several of the Von Trapp children (the actors in the movie). It’s fun to read about their experiences while filmingthe movie and to see some of their personal pictures. It is exactly what it says it is: a scrapbook of the seven children-actors. –even includes replicas of a few small, personal notes, etc. Each actor has a page spread where s/he speaks of the experience of the movie and where life has taken them since. Intermingled are other spreads of the premier, the boat scene, Bob Wise, etc. I have not finished the entire book, but what I have read I have loved. I am a huge SoM fan and I am really enjoying the stories from the people who were actually there. The pictures are wonderful as well. I am so happy that I purchased this book. |
