Book Details Title: Good Boy Better Drugs | |
Book DescriptionAbout the Author Manzo learned how to write after receiving a full academic scholarship to attend Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. His 10th grade English teacher asked him to write an entire essay using mostly dialogue, and after earning his first “A” in the subject-Manzo dreamed of becoming an author. Just like his days as a drama major in Harbor School for the Performing Arts, Manzo loved bringing life to the characters he created. While in college at Virginia Tech on a full football scholarship, Manzo lost focus on academics entirely until taking a creative writing class with American poet and activist-Ms. Nikki Giovanni. He regained his passion, but any plans to pursue a writing career ended when Manzo was convicted of drug distribution charges and sentenced to five years in federal prison. While serving his time, Manzo had read over 1000 books and changed his life. (As if he had anything else to do) Manzo’s now an author and celebrity personal trainer in New York City, where he lives with his wife Bamz, their two pit bull rescues, and their beloved bearded dragon-Richard T. Schmeglin. Read more Customers Review: If I’m lucky, I find one book per year that keeps me turning the pages so that I stay up late each night or push back other commitments to finish it. This year, “Good Boy, Better Drugs” is that book. For the sake of full disclosure, I do know the author. But either way, this book is a real page-turner that offers an insider’s look at prep schools, big-time college athletics, the drug trade, life in prison and, ultimately, redemption. There are some graphic scenes, but on par with what you’d read in a Brett Easton Ellis novel or a memoir like “The Wolf of Wall Street.” And like those books, this one uses the circumstances of the protagonist to make a point about society. Overall, a cinematic, highly-entertaining and well-crafted book. |
