This one is great for reading to kids at bedtime, and it won’t be long now before my daughter outgrows this particular ritual of ours. This book is likely better targeted to younger kids (she’s 7). It’s about a family’s adventures throughout a day, and how they pay attention to the things around them, essentially. Imparting a bit of wisdom about mindfulness along the way. It’s a large book. Hardback. Well illustrated. I didn’t know when I got it that the publisher, Sounds True, is run in part by some of my favorite mindfulness teachers and authors: Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, and Eckhart Tolle, among others. So there’s some expertise behind this particular venture. I’m glad this book exists, and that I get to read it to my daughter. We could all use a little more mindfulness practice, at all ages. Mindful DayDeborah HopkinsonThis tale has a message in it for adults as well as children. Slow down and pay attention to what is around us. Look around, ponder the wonders of nature and our loved ones. We rush through our days over looking dew on the grass, raindrops, a bird’s sweet song. A young girl spends time appreciating the little things in life often taken for granted.Together we breath’in out, soft slow. I look and listen.I smileThe above phrase reminds us to slow down, take a deep breath and enjoy life. The illustrations are beautifully done. This would make a great book for naptime or bedtime. You could ask the child what they noticed that day or challenge them to look around them. Allow them to share what they experienced. This is a wonderful book for children…and adults. I got it for my ultra active grandson, but I found the simplicity in its thought-provoking verbiage to be impactful to this grandpa, and I know it will be to my six-year-old grandson too. This is a lovely book for very young children. Features a little boy and girl and the mom as they calmly go through their day. They pay attention to the things around them as they play, pick up their toys, go for a walk, and enjoy a meal. The illustrations are pleasing and artful, with lovely watercolor-style backgrounds. Adult will enjoy reading this to children.Printed in South Korea. I wasn’t blown away by this book. The illustrations are a pretty typical watercolor style for picture books. The content is about a child going through her day, so it’s pretty tame. The wording is okay, not all that exciting, but pacing and repeated phrases are the kind that make this a good bedtime or end of storytime book. This is a cute book for kids that teaches them to take advantage of the beauty of each day. The story is entertaining for small children, and the illustrations are colorful and interesting for young readers and pre-readers. While the message is a little advanced for my toddler, I like the concept of encouraging positive mental health messages and teaching mindfulness. |
