Book Description

Review “This tribute is a ravishing spectacle” , Publishers Weekly”BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams is an absolute dream come true… there have been other books that meld comics with rock and roll. None of them, though, have done it so seamlessly and so attractively as BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams does. For fans of David Bowie, Mike Allred, rock and roll, comics and art, this is a must-have purchase.”   — Andy Burns, BiffBamPop.com”So, does it live up to the hype? Yes, and more so!…This is the best I’ve seen out of the Allreds, as they surpassed an already incredibly high bar. Pick up the book, put on some David Bowie on your listening device of choice, and let Major Tom and Ground Control bring you on a journey! 10/10″ — Olivier Roth, ComicsTheGathering.com”David Bowie, perhaps more than any other figure in Rock music, translates almost flawlessly into a comic book narrative. Not just his life as a performer, but his life as a person….Visually, Allred’s contribution is a tour de force, this is the story he has been waiting years to tell and the payoff is worth the wait…this book is much more than the sum of its amazing parts. While I am admittedly a huge Bowie fan myself, I found this book to be enjoyable beyond my own adoration of the man and his music.” — Shawn Warner, ComicCrusaders.com  “I was thrilled and honored to receive an advance copy of BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams. I had no idea what to expect. Being a superfan, I jealously believed that no one could love Bowie like I, that no one knows his songs and lyrics like I do. Ha! This book sure proves me wrong! It was so fun to be taken on a trip through Bowie’s humble beginnings to his super stardom. The images are so gorgeous. It was especially fun to recognize what the drawings mean and what songs the lyric quotes come from. I have A LOT of books about David Bowie. This one is extra special indeed.”    — Jane Weidlin, The Go-Gos”Allred & Company have created a Bowie biography that’s as colorful as his persona, as deep and varied as his music, and as cosmic as his life.” — Patton OswaltMike Allred and David Bowie are a match made in glam heaven, so much so that BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams feels like the product of a kind of cosmic spontaneous generation, but I know better. I know about the painstaking work Mike, Steve, and Laura put into crafting this magnificent union of sound and vision. It’s more than a tribute, more than a biography; it’s a signal straight from outer space beamed to Bowie fans of today, and more importantly, tomorrow.    — Phillip Hester (Mythic, Deep Sleeper)This book is innovative, provocative and endlessly compelling, just like the legend himself.  Steve Horton and Mike and Laura Allred have done a sensational job bringing Bowie and the transformative energy of his music to life. — Devin Grayson (Marvel Rising; Nightwing, Huntress)If you are a Bowie fanatic and love Mike and Laura Allred’s art, then you are in for a visual treat down memory lane as we follow the career of David Bowie and his many alter egos. This book is a visually lush account of one of the most eclectic superstars of our times presented beautifully by Steve Horton and the Allreds. Every single page is informative and poster worthy.  — Jimmy Palmiotti (Harley Quinn)BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams is a gem, a stunning accomplishment that pushes the boundaries of the graphic novel medium, much as Bowie himself pushed the boundaries of music, fashion and culture. — Russell Lissau (Old Wounds, The Batman Strikes!) Customers Review:

Gorgeous art, truthful but sensitive writing — it is clear that this was a labor of love from start to finish. There’s only one thing that kept me from calling it perfect: they referred, multiple times, to Bowie’s friend and genius behind many of his early Ziggy looks Freddie Burretti as “Freddie Brunetti.” Poor Freddie died as a virtual unknown and deserves better. His tailoring was incredibly innovative and it’s a shame he gets forgotten.Other than that, as I said, this book was lovely and necessary for any Bowie fan.
My god is this book stunning! The teaser images on Amazon don’t do it justice and what I’ve added here in my review is just the tip of the iceberg! The author/artists love of Bowie clearly shines through and I will treasure this book forever!
This book is a thing of beauty in every sense of the word. From the plot, to the dialogue, to the beautiful art and colors, and even the overall construction quality of the book! It’s clear from one reading that Mike Allred and Steve Horton have done their homework on Bowie and their love for him shines through on every page of this book. I’d say this is an essential purchase for anybody who loves Bowie or Comic books. I’ve been waiting on this book for a while now and it was completely worth the wait! Anyone on the fence should just go ahead and buy this now. You won’t regret it.
If you are already a fan of Michael Allred’s unique comic art and a fan of Bowie, this is a must-purchase. There are full-page representations of some of Bowie’s songs (from the Ziggy album and earlier) that are fun to study to identify the various obscure phrases from the lyrics. I also liked how the connections with other artists of the time were included: Marc Bolan, Elton John, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, and even Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra! This is a book to own and treasure.
Beautiful book… Bowie fan must have. My wife hugged it and thanked me over and over again…How was this not done sooner???
Mike Allred was the perfect artist. This is a beautiful biography drawn by whom is in my opinion the ideal artist to capture David Bowie. Many comics and graphic novels I have devoured and sped through. Something about the story and art has commanded me to slow down and absorb it. Simply beautiful.
Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns and Moonage Daydreams, written by Steve Horton, is a detailed & insightful journey into the events of David Bowie’s intertwined life and musical ventures. This book is packed full of trivia many of us did not know. Illustrated and colored by Micheal Allred and Laura Allred, respectively, the book is as vivid and colorful as Bowie and his on- stage personas. The only element I didn’t care for was the lack of fluid-like continuity. Reading the Bowie book felt more like a high speed slide show. Although one might argue that it’s my own failure to expect it to have been written to my standards.Nonetheless, a great book about a unique, legendary rock star who influenced more than a generation!
Stunning, well written, beautifully illustrated. By true Bowie fans for true Bowie fans. Michael Allred’s passion for David Bowie shines through this book like a beacon. I could not put this down and have read it twice in a row now. If I could give it more stars I would ❤️
