Customers Review:

Brad Taylor’s books and shorts have always been fun to read and his two main character arcs have grown in each of his stories. The author is not afraid to make changes by killing off one of the more favorite characters to increase the tension. He does this again but hold on to your seat because this ride has more ups and downs than a roller coaster.Taylor’s ’One Rough Man’ and ‘All Necessary Force’ were two of the best first novels I have ever read. This addition may be the best of the series. I highly recommend this book. The author’s accuracy in his knowledge of geography, weapons, tactics, and the different geopolitical forces is exceptional. It is unusual to have an author as accurate but able to craft the action and suspense without having issues with the reality of combat. Taylor has proved himself a master.
I read thrillers. LOTS of thrillers. I have noticed a change in structure for recurring character type stories. It used to be there was one big threat revealed at the outset of the book and the bulk of the book is building toward the conclusion of the protagonist taking out the threat. I have noticed that while that is still largely true, writers are now infusing their stories with multiple “subplot threats” that are dealt with on the way to the big conclusion and I love it. It truly creates virtually nonstop action from the opening page to the last word. (The only thing that I don’t like about it is that it really does wreak havoc on my sleep schedule.) This is without a doubt my favorite Pike Logan novel yet not only because it was nonstop action from the start but because these characters have been around for so long, the depth of character development on personal levels is so genuine and real. I can’t say enough good things about it and if I could I would give it six stars! If you are a Pike Logan fan, you will love this book. If you’ve never read any other book in the series yet, once you finish this one, do yourself a favor and start from book 1 and enjoy the entire series.
Brad clearly went in a different direction with Hunter Killer. As a Vietnam Vet, we rarely had a handy Police Station or Urgent Care around the next Rice Paddy. Also, I would have given a finger to have such a skilled Team around me.My first mission as a Team Leader, 2 of my 5 teammates were arrested in the DC riots and given a choice, Army or Jail. Where were you Pike and Company when I needed you. That being said, Hunter Killer was like all of the other Brad Taylor thrillers, action packed with 4 or 5 things going on at the same time. They smoothly came together at the end.I’d love to see Pike and the Team exploring what’s happening in Central America and how it affects our Southern Border and our Nation. Throw a little “Soros” effect in there!Looking forward to the next one.
Actually I’ve tried editing reviews of this book three times, however when I try to edit, it exits me. That snufoo needs fixing Amazon on my Kindle! Hopefully I will have this review only on this page. Initially I vacillated between a 4* and 5*. Why? Simply because I felt it deviated from actual story line by long descriptions of places etc., Another adverse feeling I had was constantly referring to Task Force as ‘killers’. Yes they kill, but I see them more as ‘heroes ‘ doing a job for the good of innocents, country, countries or world. Though if you are a regular Pike Logan reader, you know Shoshanna and Pike walk in that killed abyss when loved ones are threatened or a person’s choice in their way of life is taken from them by evil persons. But that is just my own idiosyncratic opinion sorry. Now why I have it a 5*. I love Pike Logan and his crew. Not to throw too many spoilers, but with the loss of one of my favorite people in Hunter Killer, which really began the journey to find this person’s killer/killers, I found I was literally unable to put book down. It was explisive, and there is a play on word, explosive, which if you’ve read the book you know what I mean, if not, I suggest you read it. Totally explosive in more ways than that I can count! Another huge success and if you miss reading this great Brad Taylor ‘”edge of the seat” read, you will miss out one of the hottest reads of all black ops!
Brad Taylor’s latest, Hunter Killer, is definitely one of his best. Non-stop action with all the most informative details and nuances that a seasoned special ops operator like Taylor would know and is able to share. Like the last one, the Russians are back… THE RUSSIANS! And they have no idea what’s coming for them: Pike Logan. Pike and his Task Force team have been stood down by the cowardly Oversight Council, just when Pike’s family, his family (!), is under direct attack in Charleston. Those Russian clods have no chance. But they’re doing something evil in Brazil, so Pike and the team must go down there and sort it out. And man, do they ever. The Council is MIA, but finally, the President goes rogue and supports the team, and as you would want it, Pike and company kick ass, win the day, and get back to their old life in Charleston. Bummer note: one of the key Task Force guys goes down… and that will be avenged big time. One of those you can’t put it down–for real.
A close friend, mentor and a task force family member is killed, murdered in the driveway of Logan’s house. Starting up Pike Logan’s car and it explodes. The police call it a faulty fuel line. Pike knows it’s not the cause. Two of Pikes team members are being held hostage aboard a boat in Brazil as part of political statement. A young girl he brought to America from Syria is being threatened with deportation from the very politicians who theoretically support and monitor the clandestine task force he works for. The Russians are behind all of this trying to manipulate elections and they will eliminate anyone who stands in their way. They made a fatal mistake . They are threatening people who Pike considers part of his family. Non stop action. Political intrigue. Gutless politician’s. This is an excellent read with a surprise ending I will not divulge. Enjoyed immensely!!!
