Instead, this book helps you make sense of the messy, complicated world we enter without much (if any) training. Some are fortunate to learn many of the concepts covered in the book through family or other informal ways, but there is no doubt that college woefully under-prepares young adults for the complexities they will encounter post-college. This approachable and interesting book perfectly fills that gap.I found this book to be easy and enjoyable to read, while being chock full of well-researched facts. The book is divided up into sections based on timeframe (i.e. immediately after college, a few years out, etc), and within each section, the author succinctly, yet completely covers the most important topics to fully understand during that phase. Physically speaking, the book is made of extremely high quality materials and looks quite nice on a bookshelf. This book also nicely strikes a balance between established norms and processes (where applicable) with a progressive, modern approach to the discussion on many of the issues. For example, the author makes an effort to be inclusive throughout the book, offering additional details for members of the LGBTQ community when a specific topic requires clarification or further explanation.I honestly can’t believe this type of book was not written years ago. As someone in my mid-late 20’s now, I wish I had this book and the knowledge contained within it when I graduated from college. I had to figure out a lot of this stuff on my own, often by trial and error. This book does not give all the answers to how to live one’s life, but it adequately equips the reader with the tools and knowledge to be able to make well-informed decisions. This book is full of practical knowledge applicable across so many different areas of “real life.” Given the way the information is synthesized and presented, I feel it is a great value for the money. Just knowing one of these things you didn’t previously comprehend could end up saving you a lot of money, time, and energy over the long run.
