He graduated from Beaux-arts de Toulon in 2003, then started a comics anthology called Brouillon. In 2006, he created and became president of the association Little Blue Bear and White Rabbit, which promotes graphic novels; he’s also an advocate for wordless comics. As well as making graphic novels, he writes and illustrates poetry for children and runs workshops around the country. Read more Customers Review: This English-language edition of the French graphic novel series, “Rouge,” is one of the best middle-grade graphic novels that I have ever read. It is hugely imaginative and inventive and the vivid colors are eye candy. I highly recommend it.
THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS is whimsical, includes echoes of Tintin, consistently and beautifully employs vibrant colors, and has a fearless main character in Princess Robin, the titular princess. The book is made up of three separate tales featuring inventive characters and barreling storylines that highlight precociousness and optimism.A particularly fun feature is the inclusion of interactive pages that ask the reader to complete puzzles to “help” Princess Robin with her adventures. The character illustrations boldly convey a wide range of emotions and reflect an impressive creativity and delight in their interactions. The tales are a skillful combination of joyful adventure and unabashed fantasy. Many readers will respond with curiosity and eagerness throughout the stories.At times the plot seems to get jumbled, and some of the conversations between characters feel stilted. This could be a side effect of translation from the original French, or it could be an intended feeling to accompany the tempest held within the pages. Overall, however, the book will come across as endearing and fun for the middle grade set.

Instead, she wants to go on adventures involving monsters, magical creatures, and pirates. Where will Robin go to next for her great adventure?The graphic novel was a fun and entertaining read. I love the puzzles that were included in the book. I love that each adventure is whimsical and unpredictable. It’s the perfect graphic novel for any middle grader.
“The Runaway Princess” is a charming graphic novel for middle-grade readers. Princess Robin has a total of three extraordinary adventures in this book. She along with her four new friends will get to see the wildly fanciful Aquatic Circus, find themselves on the run from the Autumn Witch in the Kingdom of Darkness and finally end up stranded on an island where they’re aided by Professor Dandelion in escaping the clutches of a group of pirates. Winsomely illustrated with a briskly paced plot, it’s an interactive story where the reader is asked repeatedly to help advance the story whether it’s to follow a maze, complete a dot-to-dot or to shake the book up and down. A totally FUN and entertaining read! |
