Customers Review:

I gave this book to my grandkids and they can’t put it down. They loved it.
What I Loved: The illustrations in this book were AWESOME! They were fun and quirky, and really made me just want to look at each one!How I Felt: Real Pigeons Fight Crime was just a ton of fun to read! I read this book and also had my 8 year old son read it. We both agreed it was a 5 star read! The pages fairly illustration-heavy making this a great book for a young reader just starting chapter books, but it’s also great for a higher level reader as well! The story was fast-paced and hilarious. Real Pigeons Fight Crime is broken into three segments of mysteries that all flowed together really well. The story was easy to follow for a child and so much fun to read!To Read or Not To Read: This is an awesome book for a middle to late elementary reader and up! With fun characters and a hilarious plot, adults and kids alike will really love it!I was provided an advanced reader’s copy of this book for free. I am leaving my honest, unbiased review voluntarily.
“Ever wonder why pigeons always act so weird? It’s because they’re out there chasing the bad guys and saving your butts!”Rock Pigeon’s idyllic life in the countryside changes when Grandpouter Pigeon invites him to join his crimefighting squad in the big city. With his talent in disguise, he joins the acrobatic Tumbler, strong Frillback, and super-finder Homey, each of which is named after a real species of pigeon (check out the cool facts in the back), as they solve three mysteries: missing breadcrumbs, kidnapped bats, and a dinner disaster. In between each mystery, an interlude foreshadows the next crime. This foreshadowing sets the stage and while giving readers clues on what to watch in the next mystery.Real Pigeons Fight Crime blends the excitement of the mystery/crime-fighting genre with humorous dialogue and powerful illustrations that interact with the text to give life to the the crimefighting pigeons’ exploits. The clever mysteries and (age-appropriate) thrilling adventures will engage readers of all ages with a fun romp through the big city.Writer’s CraftFirst, the text and illustrations interact with each other in a blend of the traditional (illustrations of the text) and innovative (graphic-novel style with the text commenting on the illustrations). This method of storytelling is compelling and engaging. The visual nature of this book makes it suitable for beginning or reluctant readers.Second, through humorous dialogue and lively illustrations, McDonald (author) and Wood (illustrator) invite readers to have fun. While reading serves some educational purposes, in the end, we want a book to entertain us, and Real Pigeons Fight Crime delivers. It’s clear that McDonald and Wood had fun putting together this book. (If not, they’re master-class liars, which only proves their mastery of their craft. After all, writers must become one when writing a work of fiction.) In turn, because of their enthusiasm for Real Pigeons, I had a blast reading this book.
A book that is perfect for reluctant readers, Real Pigeons Fight Crime is a fast-paced, hijinks-filled romp, following a team of crime fighting pigeons as they solve one mystery after another in this chapter book hybrid.Bold drawings accompany engaging text, as Rock, the new recruit to this crime-fighting squad started by Grandpouter Pigeon, leads the charge with his ability of disguise. The pigeons encounter a “haunted” park, a bat trapper, and some danger at a food truck rally. Each of these encounters are their own contained story, easy for younger readers to pick up and put down, or for more advanced readers to breeze through. The illustrations back up the humor in each story. Showing the uniqueness of each pigeon (who all exist in real life—the pigeons are actually named after their type: Rock, Tumbler, Frillback, Homing, and Pouter), the individual pigeon embodies what that type is known for, and lends their talents to round out the crime fighting team. Seeing the world through Rock’s eyes is fun since he is newly experiencing what the “big city” has to offer along with the reader.Cute, quick, and engaging, Real Pigeons Fight Crime is a great start to a very fun series! The next book in the series, Real Pigeons Eat Danger, is coming out May 5, 2020, so look out for that next “Very Coo” adventure!
REAL PIGEONS FIGHT CRIME is a hilarious and entertaining cross between graphic novel and picture book. The book is told in three parts, with each being its own inclusive story with a conclusion. The Real Pigeons are crime fighters who recruit Rock from off the farm for his ability as a master of disguise. The team solves crimes in the city in a way that is delightfully fun.The images are sketched with plenty of comedy and animals. These pigeons are unbelievably expressive, and this will make the book appeal to young children a lot. The text is really easy to follow, as it is written picture book style, with dialogue written out rather than just in speech bubbles alongside the narration. However, there is relatively low word-to-picture ratios, so it is graphic heavy, which will appeal to young or reluctant readers.Overall, these are clever little mysteries that can easily make young readers laugh in parts and in whole. I would definitely love to see more of this delightful series. Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
Ever passed by a gaggle of pigeons and wonder what they are doing?  Why do the pigeons act so weird? It’s because they are secretly fighting crime. The park and its visitors are protected by a group of pigeons that fight evildoers. They help solve mysteries and ensure everyone is safe. The illustrated book was a fun and delightful read. The book had three mini-stories with a conclusion but, each story was tied to each other. I found the illustrations to be fun especially, seeing the antics of each pigeon. Overall, a fun read for any young reader.
