I got this book because I’m an elder in a church and apart from reading my bible I enjoy Christian books that help me live a life that reflects my Lord and Savior. This book does that well, it has a casual style that helps you open up to some of the more difficult passages in the bible. You feel like you sitting at home in a relaxed conversation with the author about loving others the way Jesus did, while being encouraged all the way. The chapters are broken down in small enough segments as to make it perfect for an enjoyable study before bed. The topics and chapter separations make it equally well suited for a small group study. The subjects are deep, mirroring an Eldership class I’m currently taking, yet written in a much more enjoyable style with relevant insights that help in application to real world life of a Christian. I have a lot of Christian books on the shelf, this is definitely now one of my favorites, relaxing, insightful, challenging yet full of real life encouragement for growth in Christ as we are called to love. It’s definitely not a “here’s the latest trend” or this month’s Christian “to do” list. Built on rock solid scripture and theology thats proven to change lives, I can’t say enough about how I have enjoyed this book! This book gave me reason to pause and ask myself “Do I love like Jesus?” The answer was no…not even close. Then I asked, “Am I suppose to…or can I even love like Jesus?” The answer was ‘Yes’ simple because Jesus says I’m to. Since reading this book my life has changed. I know that God loves me unconditionally and I too can love others this way! I now know that I’m suppose to and because of that God will help me to love others! Now I can pick up this book, read a chapter, and I can refocus before I begin my day or at the end of the day.I love the examples of Jesus’ love. Simple, clear, and hard to maintain. How to be loving when it is hard. Loving over a lifetime. Loving out of my comfort zone. I need to be reminded. I need to be focused. I want to live a life of loving like Jesus, but because I am human it is hard not to lose my way. Right now I’m also thinking about the leak that needs to be fixed in my bathroom. This is the kind of person I’m dealing with – poor silly human. So thank you Kurt for helping me with this book as a guide and reminder to focus on loving like Jesus. Mr. Bennett has done with this book something so simple that it is remarkable that it has not been done many times before. He examines each of Jesus’ interactions with people recorded in the New Testament and extracts principles that we can use to imitate Him. After all, the same power that was at work in Jesus while incarnate is at work in those of us who surrender to the Holy Spirit. This book gives prompts the reader with practical instruction that can you put into action as soon as your read it.Bennett’s writing style is simple and straightforward. The chapters are short and topical making them suitable for standalone use. As a result it makes a great gift for just about anyone from adolescent to senior from new believer to lifetime saint.
