Book Description

Review Praise for Culture Code Champions:”I’ve had the privilege to work with the millennial and Gen X generations for my entire career, and building a strong culture has been paramount in my success. Higgs’ leadership formula for building dynamic teams will help you attract and keep all generations including the Gen Z folks who are just entering the workforce. By implementing the habits he provides, you will sell and perform better than your competition. Higgs’ energy is infectious… tap into it. Make this the business book your team reads together and implements!”— Ken HicksCEO, Academy SportsFormer CEO, Foot Locker”This is one of the most important books you will read on developing leadership skills through a focus on culture. I’ve studied the best coaches and teams in college sports and the winners have a tight-knit, branded culture they can rally around. The culture of continuous improvement and taking care of each other allows the team to perform in an extraordinary manner under intense pressure. We have many serious challenges in today’s world. This book provides a plan and path to achievement by being inclusive and making heroes of others.”— Paul FinebaumTelevision and Radio Personality, ESPNNew York Times Bestselling Author”Creating a great working environment invigorates people because they are working together as a team. In Culture Code Champions, Higgs correctly notes that people will have more energy, engage with their family, and help in the community because they enjoy their job. He was exposed to a strong culture as a young person in scouting and expanded that knowledge through experiences at West Point and in the US Army. I’ve watched Higgs continuously work to connect people and help them become overachievers. This book will help you do the same.”— Mark TurnerScout Executive, Boy Scouts of America – Charlotte, North Carolina Read more From the Author The army culture is built around the warrior ethos of mission first, never accepting defeat, never quitting and never leaving a fallen comrade behind. Culture Code Champions grew out of this team-first mentality. The Ranger Creed takes this cultural foundation a step further and is summarized in the motto “Rangers lead the way!” In the following story and testimonial you will see how the Task Force Ranger culture trumps the strategy and plan to win the day in the heat of battle. Lee A. Van Arsdale is one of my West Point classmates and one of my personal heroes. This is his experience from The Battle of Mogadishu–the events of which were the basis for the book and movie Black Hawk Down. Moving the combat units from the crash site to the rally point and then out of Mogadishu famously constitutes the “Mogadishu Mile” (although it was more like three miles). –Bill Higgs Read more From the Inside Flap As an award winning business leadership expert, Bill Higgs has what it takes to help you create your winning culture. Are great leaders born or made? Leadership can be learned as well as how to build your winning culture. Drucker”Let’s eat!!” –Bill Higgs Read more About the Author Bill Higgs co-founded Mustang to design and build industrial facilities. His firm was a multi-year “Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Company” and the top-rated technology and engineering firm in North America. Bill attributes their sustained growth over 30 years to their culture. By 2008, Mustang exceeded 6,500 employees. Second generation leadership continued to cultivate the winning culture and grew annual revenues past $2 Billion. The founders were recognized as the “Kings of Culture” worldwide and were crowned with the Lifetime Achievement Award for “Visionary Leadership in the Process Industry.” He is a West Point distinguished graduate (top 5% of his class) and an Honor graduate of the US Army Ranger School. Bill leads by example. He takes care of people in the same vein as the Ranger Creed of “no man left behind.” His military efficiency and effectiveness led Mustang to many victories through the teamwork required in building a “people focused and project driven” winning culture. He retired in 2008, and received the Distinguished Eagle Award from the Boy Scouts of America for exemplary service. Bill now helps others to build their businesses through Culture Code Champions. Customers Review:

This is a ‘how to’ book for entrepreneurs. It will help them, as the famous Dr. Deming says, in his book, “The Deming Management Method”to “do it right the first time.” Redoing work; re-doing appraisals, rehiring new people— all eat into your profit. So this is a great book to help you do it right the first time.
I first met Bill Higgs when we were both “New Cadets” assigned to the same “Beast Barracks” squad during early July 1970 at West Point. Without a doubt, Bill has taken the professional training we both were taught at West Point as Cadets, and, while serving as commissioned officers with the U.S. Army…..and, successfully applied this culture as a co-founder of Mustang. I wish him continued success!
Bill’s book on culture is a must read for culture champions! There are practical takeaways that apply to every organization whether it’s a business, church, club, or school. If you want to lead an organization where people wake up ready to work together to achieve awesome things – this book is for you. The author personally lived out the challenges that face a rapidly growing business – change fatigue, recruiting demands, international expansion, etc. and demonstrates that you can be a seriously successful, big company and have a tight, super-motivated workforce WHILE making a positive impact on the communities where you work!
I appreciate that this author actually built a Unicorn himself (since most business books are by authors who theorize) and you can feel his authentic passion for people and culture. There are many solid takeaways, while the book is still a nice/light read. Highly recommend.
Growing up a 2nd generation “Mustanger,” I was already well-versed in the 7 steps Bill covers in Culture Code Champions. Because of this, and because I’ve worked in highly toxic environments in the past, I’m grateful that Bill is sharing these fine-tuned concepts with the rest of the world. Every chapter is packed with stories and examples that help bring the concepts to life, giving the reader some tangible ideas to put into practice right away. Great for company leadership, this book is also accessible to every level of any company – it’s easy to talk about theories and even implementation on the macro level, but Bill does a great job of fleshing out micro examples that are possible no matter the title you carry. Short, quick, easy read with lots of great nuggets!
