Gregg Hurwitz’ latest Orphan X novel is a nonstop blockbuster from the start to the finish. Evan has decided to hang up his shingle after one more nowhere man assist. What he steps into is an evolving mystery and conspiracy that increases in intensity and lethality as he is dragged along a chain that seems endless. An ‘any-man’ slacker is entrusted with some material related to a successful relative who is killed and now he finds himself the target of a killer. Evan takes him and his crew out only to find another level above of even more dangerous criminals. This pattern continues. Evan’s neighbor Mia and her son are also drawn into the affair. At the same time, the US president is offering Evan a pardon in exchange for his permanent retirement. In the end, Evan appears to be gearing up for some overseas R&R for a future installment.Hurwitz has Evan running flat out even with a concussion. He goes above and beyond both physically as well as mentally with generous assists from his neighborhood arms dealer as well as Joey who lends technical and digital support. The action scenes are heart stopping and rarely let up. He even manages to do a good deed for one of his condo neighbors.
I love The orphan X. books By Greg Hurwitz. To tell you the truth,If this book was $100I would pay it with no Reservation. This is a kicking ass book. This book had my attention from the very 1st paragraph To the very last sentence.I can’t tell you How well Written And finished moving this book is very. The amount of Research the Greg put into this book Is awe Inspiring.I can’t wait to the next book comes out It’s that good.Bravo For writing A wonderful novel.
As a huge fan of all of Gregg Hurwitz’s books this newest addition to the Orphan X series just cements my good judgement of great authors. Any fan of Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, Scarecrow or John Milton is missing out if you’re not reading the Orphan X series. Although each book is a stand alone story they’re better if you start at the beginning…and I am hoping Mr. Hurwitz will continue this series because I don’t want to say goodbye to this character and his amazing exploits. Gregg Hurwitz will continue to be one of my favorite authors that I always pre-order anything he writes. Read one or his books and you’ll want to read them all.
I just finished “Into The Fire”, the latest in the Orphan X series. Gregg Hurwitz is simply one of the best out there, a rare storyteller in the stellar company of David Baldacci, Lee Child, the late Vince Flynn, and the late Tom Clancy. Evan Smoak, who is Orphan X, gets a call from someone needing his help. He has determined this will be his last case, his last person to help out of terrible trouble and danger. What Evan could not predict was how this case would be an onion, and have to have each layer removed the reveal the next layer underneath, and the next, and the next. Full of twists, turns, and danger, Evan must help his friend Max stay alive while Evan attempted to figure out what the real game behind the game behind the game actually was. It takes a masterful hand to even write a novel like this, with the complexity of dozens of plot lines. Yet Gregg Hurwitz does so, and makes it seamless, and most of all, meaningful. I always enjoy a novel that ends well. Not simplistic. Ends well. With redemption. With second chances. With healing. With hope. This is such a novel. So engrossing this novel was, I found myself overcome with emotion near the end, cheering for Max, cheering for Joey, and cheering for Evan. Hope. Such a simple word, but such an immense feeling. Simply one of the best novels I’ve read. And I read a lot.
Wow this was so great! When I started it, I was at first a bit disappointed because the set up took some time and it seemed a bit slow. But that certainly changed rather quickly. This is the 5th in the Orphan X series and it seems like it may be the last. I really hope not. It starts with the death of a forensic accountant and speeds up to multiple feats by our hero that rival superman or a jedi knight. The reader must really suspend disbelief, which I did most willingly. Orphan X, AKA Evan Smoak, AKA The Nowhere Man is a super hero who apparently can win against the bad guys even with a severe concussion and blown pupil in one eye. When he was a child in an orphanage, he slept on the floor before being “rescued” to be trained to be a skilled assassin in a black ops program. All of us that devoured the first four books in the series are totally happy to read of his superhuman skills and gulp them down without flinching. If Evan really has to go, maybe Gregg Hurwitz can invent a new hero? Meanwhile, even though this can be read as a stand-alone, you’ll have the most fun by starting with #1, Orphan X (2016). And, of course, each ending is complete on its own – never a cliff hanger here.
I was counting down the days to the release of this book. I downloaded it at 12am on January 28th. It was more than worth the wait. Evan is at the top of his game. Old characters are back with interesting plots and twists. Evan gets more “human” and more skilled as a “hitman” and I love the understories. He is inventive, confused, lovable, patient and most of all a superb hero. I like him so much that I would like to meet him. Yes, I know he’s a fictional character. I’ve been thinking about the movie Greg should make and the perfect actor to play Evan. I can’t find a “real” Evan.I rate this book an “11”. There are surprises, plot twists, amazing action and inventive ways to kill.I loved everything about this book. Please read it. Great job Gregg Hurwitz.
