Book Description

Review “Weaning is a time filled with mixed emotions for both mother and child. This book beautifully articulates these feelings through poetry and illustration. It helps the child understand what weaning means and how the mother-child bond continues, even when breastfeeding is no longer a part of their routine. The perfect read for the weaning child.” -“The Milk Meg,” Meg Nagle, IBCLC “Weaning shouldn’t be rushed, and it should be handled gently and with respect for the child’s feelings. Jessica Elder understands how important this process is, and provides parents with a lovely tool to open discussion about how weaning will happen – and how life will happily continue afterward. She identifies some of the emotions the child may be feeling and opens a door for questions and communication.” -Elizabeth Pantley, mother of four and author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution and the No-Cry Solution book series “Weaning a toddler can be an emotional transition for both mother and toddler. This wonderful book for parents and their toddlers addresses the psychological aspects of weaning in an age appropriate, fun way, with beautiful words and colorful illustrations. It helps validate the toddler’s feelings and is a must read for mothers and toddlers going through the weaning process, and entering a new stage in their relationship.” -Dr. Heidi Horsley, Psychologist, Child Development Adjunct Professor, Columbia University, Executive Director of the Open to Hope Foundation “4 out of 4 stars! In addition to the heart-warming message of the book, the artwork is amazing. Kids would be drawn to the pictures with interest, and there are lots of things to talk about when sharing the book with children. Also, at the end of the book there are suggestions for how to use this book, including little tips and tricks that are useful for sharing any book with a child.” -Online Book Club “Breastfeeding mothers from generations past and those who recently experienced the weaning process with their own babies will wish they had had a book like this to guide them in explaining to and supporting their children through this often-delicate process. Thus, Elder’s book is not only timely but also an essential read for today’s young mothers.” – Laurie A. This book is written beautifully! Because of the beautiful prose and illustrations, this book will promote loving dialog and be a guide of support for the mother and baby. As a grandmother, it’s the perfect baby gift for my friends new grandchildren!
This beautifully written and illustrated book is a wonderful gift for every new mother. The weaning process is filled with an enormous number of emotions for both mother and child and this heartfelt book addresses those emotions in a way that only a woman who has been through this process would understand. I will happily recommend this book to my patients and it will be a definite gift for friends and family expecting a new baby or in the process of weaning.
This was a perfect tool for our journey, the story is simple, relatable and age appropriate while still addressing a complex challenge. Lovely artwork too. My son asked to read it again right away and then we talked about how it made him feel.
As a Registered Nurse, I get asked questions on weaning often. Now I feel confident in referring mothers to this fantastic book! Very realistic, well written, and enjoyable! Guidance and support from professionals is invaluable with the stress new parents have! Great book I highly recommend. Positive upbeat take on this emotional topic. Thank you, Ms. Elder!
This book is a must have for anyone weaning or planning to wean a toddler from breastfeeding. The book is simple and written in rhyme – the perfect format for little ones. The illustrations matched the words perfectly and brought tears to my eyes. I loved this book so much that I got 1 paperback for myself, 3 as gifts, and then a hard cover as a keepsake!
I bought this book to give as a gift for a friend who’s about to start weaning, but was curious & thumbed through it. I’m so glad I did! Such a sweet, genuine book that brought me back to when I nursed my babies. In addition to being a lovely read aloud, I could definitely see it being a helpful tool in the weaning process.
What a beautiful message Jessica Elder sends to toddlers and moms! I see her book as a valuable means whereby the weaning process can be navigated successfully and with sensitivity. Congratulations to her on a job well done!
This book was heartwarming, insightful, and an excellent read for young moms in that stage of life. As a mom and grandmother, I highly recommend this book.
