COLLECTING: BLACK BOLT (2017) 1-12 Customers Review:This story is incredible. It is a very moving tale about one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe. Black Bolt. We start the story with Black Bolt waking up in a prison he has no idea how he got into. It is run by the sadistic Jailer who emotionally tortures the prisoners as well as physically. Black Bolt makes friends with some other prisoners such as long time Thor antagonist the Absorbing Man! They all band together to take out the all powerful Jailer and win their freedom!Writer Saladin Ahmed makes a huge splash into the Marvel Universe with his epic tale of a man trying to win back his freedom and himself in the process. Black Bolt comes with a lot of baggage along with being a hero. In order to regain his status as being a hero the silent king must learn to forgive himself and reach deep within to prove himself. Ahmed also writes the supporting cast so well. He gives special attention to the Absorbing Man and really fleshes him out into a three dimensional character.Wow. The art. Christian Ward does some of the best work I’ve ever seen in a comic story. His visuals provide the dream like essence Ahmed is going for even delving into nightmare territory when it is called for. His line work and colors dazzle the pages that keep you looking for moments on end. He gets some high level assists from Frazer Irving and Stephanie Hans too. All the artwork in this book is top level quality that more than deserves the hardcover deluxe treatment it comes in.All in all this is a story to remember. It goes up there with all the other great Inhuman stories that have been told. Definitely worth your time reading. |
