And she didn’t disappoint me. I loved Hidden Currents, the first one of these new books. Sharon captivated me at once with her classical tale of good and evil. Winsome characters like Calara, the talented dancer who worked fifteen years for her goal to help control her orderly world of Meriel, and Brantley of Windswell, her herder turned hero, breathe life, beauty, adventure, danger, and a touch of romance into this exceptional story.I loved Sharon’s creativity in this clean fantasy that held me spellbound from the first page until the end. The use of abusive power by an “Order” that wants to control everyone and everything is not farfetched from our own world in certain situations, and catch us crying, “No!” along with Brantley. Yet whispers from the “Maker” to Calara and others in the story open our hearts and encourage us to hunger for truth and believe for a good and hopeful future—whether in this fantasy or in our own hearts.Magical, lyrical, intriguing—Hidden Currents has it all. The first in The Dancing Realm series, I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Calara is training to become a dancer to help control her world. However, days before her final test, she begins to see that things are not exactly as she thought they would be. She is called on to teach a class of the youngest dancers in the Order, and she sees between her experience while teaching along with her final test. She passes the test and is invited to join the Order as a dancer. It should be everything she wants, but she sees that everything is not what she expected it to be.When one of the student’s uncles comes to rescue his niece, Calara escapes with them From there the danger and adventure picks up as soldiers come after her. Calara encounters the true Maker and sets out to reveal the truth about their world to her people. So if you like a book with adventure, danger, and quests. Check out this book for yourself.I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review. Can’t say enough about how much I love this newest book by Sharon Hinck!I was already a fan, having read her Sword of Lyric series. Her world creation, characters, and stories absolutely drew me in from first to last, so I was just a little skeptical about how she would top that experience when I picked up the first book of this new series.Wow!She has absolutely done it again, creating a whole vivid new world with relate-able characters and a high-stakes plot that kept me spellbound in the best sort of way. Through it all she weaves clear insights into spiritual realities that will give readers much to ponder long after the last page is read.I will DEFINITELY be reading the next books in this series! As you can tell, though, my impressions of this book are memorable. As many have stated, Sharon Hinck has formulated an arresting and well fleshed out world for us. The culture of the floating land of Meriel is fascinating and, whether or not you dance (I wish I did), the dancing and the school behind it are equally captivating. Add an all-powerful Order abusing its power along with a slow-blooming romance and you have a story one cannot put down until they have consumed it whole.What Hinck has devised is a bewitching story-world for the masses coupled with truth that transforms our own realities. I was so moved by its careful and spirited unfolding that I now find myself daily wanting to read it all over again. Calara’s journey from learning Who the Maker is to surrendering her will for His cause was so soul-stirring, it reaffirmed my passion to do the same. It is evident this author has journeyed with the Maker and KNOWS Him well. I wish there were more books like this!! I loved this book! It is a lovely, engaging story that is easily read, but it contains such rich Christian truths in the telling. Sharon Hinck has created a world that is different from ours, but the nature of the Maker of this world is the same as our own Creator’s nature, and the relationship He seeks with the people of this beautiful, interesting world is the kind of relationship our God seeks to have with us. To me, the most powerful message of this book is what the main character, Calara, learned about her true identity and worth in the eyes of her Maker, and how she could walk in His plans for her life trusting in Him, not in her own power or strength. In following the path He set before her, she experienced conflict within herself, and with adversaries, that brought the stories of various Old Testament characters to my mind. I found myself in tears multiple times throughout the book, as what Calara was experiencing reminded me of how God has worked in my own life and heart over the years. Lovely, beautiful story. I look forward to the rest of the series, for sure! I totally loved this book. I highly recommend this book set in an alternate universe to you. I typically am not a fan of “fantasy” or books set in “alternate universes,” but Sharon writes in a way that these foreign worlds seem plausible and are so well developed. And, the themes of these stories make me think and have so many parallels/truths that apply to my personal life.If you haven’t read her SWORD OF LYRIC series of 4 books, I highly recommend them as well – and since they are all out, you don’t have to wait for the next installment.Another great thing about the way Sharon writes a series is that they are not unfinished stories where you are left “hanging” until the next book is released.
