Customers Review:

Pepper has done everything right. She’s spent all of her high school years foregoing social activities and real friendships so she can be top of the class in just about every subject while also serving as captain of the swim team. Every minute of her day is spoken for with studying and the exact right amount of extra curricular activities. She barely has time to sleep (let alone figure out what she actually wants to DO with her life), but that doesn’t stop her mom from asking Pepper to help with the family’s booming burger business on the side. No one knows it, but Pepper is actually running the company’s very popular and entertaining Twitter account.Pepper is stressed but managing…that is, until her mom accidentally starts a Twitter war with a local burger restaurant over who makes the best grilled cheese. To make matters worse, the restaurant owner’s twin sons both go to Pepper’s school—and one of them, Jack, happens to be her nemesis at the moment. When Jack finds out that Pepper is behind the tweets, he decides to take over the restaurant’s Twitter account for his parents, and the real games begin. What could possibly go wrong when all is fair in war…and love?Oh guys. This is such an adorable book. From start to finish, it moves and marches—forward, onward, always. The story is smart and nuanced, never boring or predictable. I love that Jack and Pepper are fully-formed, believable, sweet, but sometimes flawed, characters. They act and react quickly and in ways that make sense. They’re witty, creative, endearing, loyal, and earnest kids just trying to figure out their place in their own lives (especially in relation to their successful and strong-willed parents). I love that they both come from hard-working, down-to-earth families—families who love them and want what’s best for them, even when they don’t always get it right. There was just so much about this book that resonated with me. I liked these people. I understood them.I know it’s literally the first month of the year, but I don’t care, I’m calling it. This will be one of my favorite books of 2020. I can’t believe this is author Emma Lord’s first book. I’m already eagerly anticipating the next one.
Finally, a YA without dead or evil parents!!! This book was UTTERLY CHARMING, like a cake pop come to life. I enjoyed every bite—er, I mean page—from the well crafted characters, to the whip smart dialogue, to charming prose.I adored that Lord captured the Twitter brand war perfectly. The IRL ones are why I’m even on Twitter. I love that the hero’s brother is gay and everyone is cool with it. It’s not some big dramatic plot point. It just is and he’s loved. I love that the parents are all alive. I love how little angst there is in this story. All in all, 100% recommended with a side of your favorite dessert. Also, make sure to check out Lord’s blog as she posted the Monster Cake Recipe (you’re welcome.)
**Disclaimer: I was given a free e-ARC of the below in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley**Title Tweet CuteAuthor Emma LordRelease Date January 21, 2020Description from AmazonMeet Pepper, swim team captain, chronic overachiever, and all-around perfectionist. Her family may be falling apart, but their massive fast-food chain is booming ― mainly thanks to Pepper, who is barely managing to juggle real life while secretly running Big League Burger’s massive Twitter account.Enter Jack, class clown and constant thorn in Pepper’s side. When he isn’t trying to duck out of his obscenely popular twin’s shadow, he’s busy working in his family’s deli. His relationship with the business that holds his future might be love/hate, but when Big League Burger steals his grandma’s iconic grilled cheese recipe, he’ll do whatever it takes to take them down, one tweet at a time. All’s fair in love and cheese ― that is, until Pepper and Jack’s spat turns into a viral Twitter war. Little do they know, while they’re publicly duking it out with snarky memes and retweet battles, they’re also falling for each other in real life ― on an anonymous chat app Jack built. As their relationship deepens and their online shenanigans escalate ― people on the internet are shipping them?? ― their battle gets more and more personal, until even these two rivals can’t ignore they were destined for the most unexpected, awkward, all-the-feels romance that neither of them expected.Initial ThoughtsOk, can I just take a minute to talk about the fact that I’m reviewing a book that’s coming out in 2020?!? Seriously, where did the year go? It feels like just yesterday I didn’t even know what an ARC was, and now, I’m reviewing books for 2020! Anyway, I was chosen for a Blog Tour of this book in January but I couldn’t resist reading it early and writing this review. Some Things I LikedGossip Girl vibes. I. Love. Gossip Girl. This book had all the best parts of that story without any of the needless bitchy-ness. I loved that. And, it was self-referencing (in a way). The story cited its parallels to the hit show and I just loved that.Additionally, I loved all of the references to various bits of pop culture.Alternating POV. This was perfectly done. Since our main characters are both harboring secrets that the other doesn’t know, the POVs made this story so much more fun to follow.Grilled Cheese. Buddy the Elf’s food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. Mine are grilled cheese, mac and cheese, donuts, and peanut butter cups. This whole story revolved around one of the most epic foods in existence.I also really enjoyed the multi-generational element in both of these rivaling restaurants.Favorite Quote“Full-time vice principal and part-time thief of joy.”“Thief of joy” is one of my favorite things that Michael calls Dwight on The Office. When I saw it used here, I literally laughed out loud.Final ThoughtsThis book was adorable. I loved every page. I applied for it kind of on a whim since I really don’t read many contemporary novels but this really caught my eye. I’m so excited to be participating in the blog tour in a few months. In the meantime, ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR, like ASAP (or as Michael Scott would say, ASA P as possible ).⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Recommendations for Further ReadingFlawed by Becky Bird – if you like cute, contemporary romance stories, definitely give this new release by Becky Bird a try.Cupid’s Match by Lauren Palphreyman – this book isn’t out yet but if you enjoyed the setting and characters in Tweet Cute, definitely give this new release a try.
This was such a cute and fun read. Think Gossip Girl meets You’ve Got Mail.Word of advice while reading make sure you have eaten because with all the talk of the Deli and BLB and ALL the desserts my stomach growled a few times.Pepper and Jack take us into the world of teens and their social media presence. Navigating being over achieving seniors, they are getting ready to embark in the college world. Cue in the pressures of parents, family business, and overall NYC prep school expectations. This story is very different from what I normally read which was refreshing and a great way for me to start off the New Year.I definitely recommend this read to those who love a younger, sweeter take on romance. This is something I would absolutely recommend to my friends with young teenagers.
