I do love mushrooms but don’t really know what Tipo00 flour is, HP sauce, canned lentils and some precooked multi grain. I really know all of these things but I’m going to guess a lot of people might not. all in Chef Jamie Oliver’s VegGlorious style “Ultimate Veg” is not just another vegetarian cookbook. According to Jamie, he spent over 8 years traveling the globe collecting and perfecting the recipes for this volume, his admitted labor of love. I found the collection of recipes to be organized well and to include a few categories that were not the same old thing: PIES, PARCELS, & BAKES; TRAYBAKES; BURGERS & FRIES; BRUNCH. There’s a bunch more of the usual suspects. Each recipe includes a list of ingredients and a step by step tutorial from the chef, in what I’m calling “Jamie Speak” – he’s got some unique turns of phrases that I’m sure have British colloquial roots:”reduce by half before scrunching in the tomatoes”; “bring to a boil then leave to tick away for 5 minutes”; “broil until beautifully golden and gnarly”; “ripple a good few shakes”. Sure livens up the recipe! Also included for each recipe is a full color photograph of the finished dish and expanded nutritional values – thank you very much. So, in the infamous words of Kermit, “It’s good to be green” and yellow, red, orange… The book itself is not sturdy. I have been waiting since the middle of last year when I started following Jamie on his Facebook page. I preordered in November… and waited not so patiently… the first time I opened the book to read the cover started coming off. I have been waiting a looong time for this book… I’m not waiting any longer, Im not returning the book just to turn around and have to wait again. I travelled to a few stores yesterday looking for ingredients. Made veggie pad Thai. As I was putting together the recipe I was getting nervous my kids would not like it. Not to worry, even fussy mr 4 gobbled it up. Mr 10 was surprised at how dull he was, but the best reaction was from my husband… he asked “is this hard to put together?” I said no (the hardest part was gathering the ingredients… seriously I went into the pantry and could not find anything- and they were right in front of my face… hoping clean eating will help fix this foggy brain) then the hubster said he could eat it all the time and packed up the leftovers for his work tomorrow. That is the ultimate praise. That man loves his food, loves his meat, but is willing to try changing his lifestyle to save his life. Thanks Jamie Oliver. My only complaint is the binding. The grammar is so terrible i cannot follow the directions. Really disappointing. I purchased the Ultimate Veg Kindle Edition with hesitation. You never know if there will be pictures of all the recipes or macros/nutrition information listed. It seems I was worried about nothing because this one has BOTH!! I’m not sure about the reviews with metric units, I can guarantee my edition (Ultimate Veg) is imperial (US) – screenshot attached of the macros and first few ingredients for the puff pastry sheet pan pizza. Also important to note, all of the ingredients are “normal” items you can find in a regular grocery store, and there aren’t a ton of ingredients per recipe. If you’re not looking to go full on vegetarian/vegan, but just want to easily add a couple extra plant based meals to your week, this is a great way to get started. Jamie makes cooking – and cooking healthily for your family – so accessible. I will confess that I love all of what Jamie Oliver does. From his cookbooks, his Italy series and all his cooking videos, etc. Jamie is a genius with food. All of his recipes work. Jamie’s unpretentiousness and his deep love for food comes through on every page in this new book. These are the most creative and exotic recipes on vegetables I have ever seen. LOVE LOVE this cookbook! ❤️ The book is beautiful and in brand new condition, as advertised. I love a good hardcover with outstanding quality of both the cover and the pages. As for content, it’s easy to follow. Many recipe books aren’t always realistic for an average cook like myself. Ingredients are interesting, but not out of reach. Jamie Oliver keeps the recipes do-able and the one dish I’ve prepared (with a couple very minor modifications) turned out fantastic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. You don’t have to be a vegan or vegetarian to benefit from this book. This is an absolutely beautiful book the pictures are stunning of the food I can’t wait to try some of these recipes |
