Book DescriptionCustomers Review:During my 22.5 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, I had ample opportunity to lead Marines both as an enlisted man and as an officer. Through regular leadership training during my military career, I learned the information presented by Jocko Willink in his “Leadership, Strategy and Tactics Field Manual.”Having retired from the Marines 30 years ago, I found this book refreshing. The concepts brought back memories of success and failure that I experienced as both a subordinate and as a leader.I am retired now, but I remember using these strategies after my military service as I rose through the ranks of a National Service Organization, as I grew my personal business organization, and during another career with a state government. When my son was young I remember trying to teach him many of these leadership strategies. I remember telling him that a good leader gives the credit to the team’s success, but takes responsibility when things don’t go well. Successful leaders praise people publicly and reprimand them privately. Successful leaders listen to and train subordinates while encouraging others to resolve problems at the lowest level. These concepts and many others are taught to Marines during their ongoing leadership training.Recently my son discovered Jocko Willink and was excited to introduce me to the author’s bestseller “Extreme Ownership” as well as this field manual. I am proud that my son is using these leadership strategies and tactics in his career and has had an impact on the success of his team’s performance and morale.Throughout my adult life, I have seen people and all levels struggle at work because they have never received training and do not know how to lead others or understand how to build teamwork and morale. Clashing ego’s and lack of understanding of leadership concepts hurt productivity, morale, teamwork, and success in businesses.I recommend this book to family, friends, and others. I think it should be required reading beginning in high school. The leadership skill training provided by Jocko Willink will help people understand and get along with others. Practicing these skills will help people to be better parents, teachers, students, employees, bosses, and more.Enjoy! |
