Customers Review:

Shellie Bowdoin presents a very holistic approach to weight loss. In fact the book focuses more on the whole person gaining health physically, spiritually, even emotionally and really in all areas of life with mindfulness that comes from intentionality. Shellie gives practical tools for implementation without the legalistic sense of dutiful restriction. Quite the opposite! She brings freedom to the reader through designing a plan that works for the individual melding food intake, journaling, and a host of appealing practices rarely address in dietary considerations. I believe this is one of, if not the, most balanced approaches toward success that I’ve ever read.
I love the simplicity of the book and study. It is well-organized, easy to use and a pleasure to follow along. What I love most about this study, is that it is coming from the author’s own experience and heart. As a health coach, I often fall back on her book to help my clients in their own weight loss journeys. It gave me a deeper understanding of the psychology of eating and how to help my clients better. I also appreciate that the writer does not stress the whole process by expecting perfection. Instead, she makes the journey real, fun, and easy to aspire/relate to. She focuses on freedom from bondage, not just weight loss to look pretty!  I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with weight issues, food addiction or any practitioner who wants to dive deeper and get a better understanding of what their clients or patients are experiencing. It will be a wonderful study for women’s groups as most of us struggle with food, weight, guilt, body image issues or have a friend who struggles with it!
Find Your Weigh is not a diet book. You will not be told what to eat and what not to eat. It the very personal story that author Shellie Bowdoin’s shares about trying to discover why she kept gaining and losing the same weight over and over. Shellie shares her 50-day journal that started this process of figuring out what was tripping her up and encourages her readers to do the same. This book, complete with a journal for your own journey is great for those who want to go beyond the “just tell me what will fix this” mentality to getting to the bottom of their food issues once and for all. – Cathy Lawdanski, MySideof50.com
I like the way Shellie incorporates the spiritual, emotional and practical into a way of life instead of a diet that is meant to be temporary; incorporating spiritual training such as practicing self-control and learning how freeing it can be. She talks about how our emotions can sabotage even our greatest efforts at losing weight. Changing our mindset is critical to success. And of course, it helps to learn practical ways to stop from overeating, like portion control and not giving up on our favorite foods just eating less of it.Journaling is not something I’m good at. I have tried many times only to stop again. Whether it be for writing down prayers or prayer requests or journaling emotions I’ve never been able to continue what I’ve started. But, I do see the value in it and admire others who do it and can see that it would be beneficial for a sustained healthy lifestyle.
My sister and I tracked down this book and Bible study after reading a shortened version in our Bible app, the Youversion Bible. This book has been speaking to our hearts. It is helping us to build a new relationship with food and more importantly, a new relationship with God. You learn why diets in the past failed you – interesting insight. We both are filled with hope and encouragement as we continue on this journey! Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a fresh approach to thinking about the mindset and behavior we have with food. She offers an innovative approach to help you become mindful of your eating habits. It’s encouraging and also provides a journal to help you think about your food choices. It’s not a list of forbidden foods or a meal plan, but it will get you thinking differently about the relationship you have with food and the choices you make.
I so appreciate the practical and Biblical advice that Shellie gives us to order our lives. It’s not just about eating. It’s about what we desire most. What has control of me? Too often it’s my flesh, and my flesh wins out…therefore I eat what my flesh wants, not what it needs. For a healthy, sustainable, holy lifestyle…read and apply “Find Your Weigh”!
If you want to do something good for your body, read this book, and the way you think about food will change. This is not a “quick fix” to lose weight. Instead, it’s over-flowing with practical, realistic and even intriguing ideas on your relationship with food. Shellie’s description of her own personal “food” journey will resonate with everyone, regardless of your weight. Perfect gift for friends who want a healthier way of eating that’s not a diet. A valuable resource for lifelong healthy eating habits.
