Book Description

For more than fifty years, J. Krishnamurti gave public talks to audiences around the world in which he expressed a revolutionary new understanding of consciousness, daily life, and the human condition. Krishnamurti in America is the first biography to tell the complete story of his life in the United States, and it presents a new perspective on his life and his teaching. It is a story of love and betrayal, lawsuits and enlightenment, passion and transcendence.

Customers Review:

Clearly a five star book for anyone concerned with the teachings of J. Krishnamurti in context with his personal relationships. Krishnamurti stated we can only know ourselves in relationship and Mr. Moody uses this prescription to skillfully illuminate his subject’s life by recollecting Krishnamurti’s involvement with the principal people in his life. The use of these biographical elements not only sheds light on the mysteries surrounding Krishnamurti’s personal life, but they also add a deeper layer for understanding the teachings and their relevance to human psychology. The reader will not only find useful information concerning the seers life but will also find Mr. Moody’s commentary as a very helpful element for gaining a better understanding of the teachings and their application to everyday life.
I found the story of Krishnamurti’s life in America to be quite fascinating. This book also made me realize how interesting his philosophy is. It is not some kind of abstract mysticism, but all about issues of daily life. It is very psychological and perceptive. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
David Moody’s new book “Krishnamurti in America,” along with Michael Mendizza’s “Always Awakening” done in concert with Samdhong Rinpoche, is a most enlightening doorway into Krishnamurti’s life and teachings. I strongly recommend this book for its clarity, insights and factual presentation. Moody has a deep understanding of Krishnamurti’s work. This is a rich, elegant ,riveting book which should not be missed. James Paul, former Trustee of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America
America held a special place in Krishnamurti’s affections. This is where Krishnamurti and his brother first experienced life without the close scrutiny of their Theosophical chaperons, where Krishnamurti had the first of his many transformative esoteric experiences, where his brother died, and where he chose to die. It therefore seems only right that we have a book that concentrates on his life in America, and luckily David Moody gives us this. Moody bravely tries to show us Krishnamurti’s sixty years of work in the US which is interesting. More interesting still is Moody’s exposition of the almost twenty years of legal wrangling in which Krishnamurti and his agents worked to recover land, money, and archives donated for his work in America, but which had been stolen. But perhaps best is Moody’s account of the early years of the new school started by Krishnamurti in California (The Oak Grove School) for which Moody had a front row, if uncomfortable, seat. Moody’s account is moving, balanced, and vibrant. This book is an important addition to the growing library of Krishnamurti’s biographical material.
